Armor Textures
okay with the recent addition of the ability to mod in game textures a few people have been sharpening their in game armors by using things like the Topaz filter. the filter has made armors look so much better with little to no alteration of the actual game. i'm wondering then if it would be possible for Anet to Topaz, or something similar, to all aspects of the game. because initial rendering..etc brought resolution down on the textures wouldn't something simple like the topaz filter to increase resolution and detail be a great addition?
before:
after:
and if it's not feasible to do this to all textures, to 15k armors at the very least would be greatly appreciated i'm sure.

Ive been wanting better quality textures on armor for a long time now. My initial suggestion was simply to render armors in outposts at the same quality your characters is shown as, and make it anextra ultra high texture setting so players with lower scec PC's can still use the lower settings.
But this idea looks wery good, those armors are pretty. How do mod them anyway?

The problem with topazing, is sometimes it can make armor look "cheap" or "plastic" if you know what I mean. Its kinda hard to tell that the FoW armor is made from hard steel and iron when its been glossed and fancied up so much.
I don't think any sort of filter needs to be applied, simply an option to have higher resolution textures on those that are already incorporated into the game. The topaz filter seems to create patterns on armor that some may find unsatisfactory. This is because the topaz filter (from what I believe) enhances detail through darkening and brightening, unearthing details which were meant to not be shown. Making armors look in essence, heightened to the point of detail and color where it looks like someone redid the texture in photo shop with no sense of realism and planted it onto the armor. To me it almost looks a little WoW-esque to have such harsh lines and border marks on armor (Almost like a comic effect). Although Topaz is a nice to some people, its better left to the personal user's decision through mods. I believe if Anet simply introduced new aspects to armor, such as bump mapping and lighting, things would over all look better and less blurry, and much more sharper.

ah yeah i'm not asking that all armors look like my examples just that something be done about the armor textures. for the people who have good video cards and have also bought that expensive armor i think it should look significantly better than standard armors.
those ss's were just an example of how simply filtering the texture through photoshop produced such drastic results, Anet could make armors look incredible with new lighting/shading features...etc beyond simply the texture.

The game's textures are already very nice and material specific....
The thing you should be asking for in GW is proper normal maps to add depth. Not cheezy photoshop effects.

IMO, if you showed other people's armor in high res in town (the same way they show your character's) then everything would be fine. Right now the lack of detail on other people's armor in towns is horrible.
